Popin' with Alex (Taylor's Version)

I wanted to start off the first Taylor Tuesday by going over one of the biggest things that have shaped Taylor’s career recently, which is the re-release of her old albums.

As widespread as Taylor Swift is, it is funny how now many people actually know the reason she is re-recording her albums.

Everything traces back to her old manager, Scooter Braun, and her first record label, Big Machine Records.

Taylor Swift recorded and released her first six albums with Big Machine Records with Scooter as her manager. In turn, Scooter had owned the master copies of all of her music.

When Taylor Swift was leaving the record label, which Scooter recently bought, she offered to buy them, but he declined.

He then sold her masters to a private equity company in 2020 for $300 million, with part of the deal being that they can not sell them back to Taylor.

Overall, it was a lot of public drama, with both sides, especially Scooter, being incredibly petty publicly.

Now, Taylor does not own her first six albums, nor does she make money off of them.

In turn, she wants to own her albums, so she has started re-recording and rereleasing her old albums.

Now, her albums are followed by (Taylor’s Verison), which means she owns it. It started with Fearless, her second studio album, being re-recorded.

Upon rerecording, Taylor also includes old songs that she wrote for the album, that did not make the cut, calling them (From the Vault).

The re-recording of her albums is a way for her to own her old music in a sense, and it has also made her a ton of extra money.

In many interviews, she has said how amazing and grateful she is for her fans because without them supporting her and her re-recordings, she could not do it.

That is all for this Taylor Tuesday (A Wednesday when this is going up because I forgot about Tuesdays)!

Thank you so much for tuning in, and this has been “Popin’ with Alex" (Taylor’s Version).

See you in the future, and the next Taylor Tuesday will entail a review of her discography and her past, then in-depth album reviews in weeks to come.

What are you most excited about when discussing Taylor, feel free to let me know in the comments~

  1. I had no idea that she didn't own her music, that's crazy! I'm curious about what happened between her and Kanye... could you explain what occurred between the two?
